The step-daughter of a pregnant woman shot over the weekend was arrested and charged with threatening to hurt her just before the attack, Cincinnati police said Monday.
Maliyah Houseworth, 18, faces a charge of aggravated menacing. She is accused of "threatening to commit serious physical harm" to her step-mother, said Lt. Gary Brown.
Court documents show the girl admitted to sending a text message to her step-mother, identified as Nina Brumfield: "B----, when you hear these shots don't call the police watch u n----- gone be scared."
The victim believed the threat, police wrote.
The teen is not charged in the actual shooting, which remains under investigation. A motive was not disclosed.
"We are not sure who shot her yet," Brown said.
Brumfield, 30, remains in critical but stable condition since she was shot in the chest as she stood near her kitchen window just before noon Sunday in the 2500 block of Halstead Street.
Housworth was questioned immediately following the alleged attack and arrested shortly after.
It is not clear when she will appear before a judge. No court date is scheduled.
