CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Charges were filed over the weekend against the motorist who hit and killed a 43-year-old woman on the Eighth Street Viaduct late last year.
Rassudan Uhuru, 57, faces one count each of vehicular homicide and vehicular manslaughter. He was booked into the Hamilton County jail at 9:35 a.m. Saturday and released after posting $1,000, the required 10 percent of his $10,000 total bond, at 12:01 p.m.
Uhuru "failed to maintain an assured clear distance and struck a stopped vehicle and, as a result, killed Stacey Curtis" of South Fairmount just before midnight on Dec. 22, Cincinnati police wrote in court records.
Curtis was found lying in the 1900 block of the road and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said she had stopped her 2007 Saturn Ion in the eastbound lanes to secure her load when she was struck by Uhuru's eastbound 2002 Chrysler PT Cruiser.
A man in her vehicle, Ivan Bingham, 45, was taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Uhuru was not hurt.
At the time of the crash, police said alcohol and speed did not appear to be factors.
Uhuru was convicted of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in 1998, court records show.
