A dog in Cedar Rapids proved that even distance can't break the bond between owner and pet.

Sissy, a 10-year-old Miniature Schnauzer walked nearly 20 blocks straight from her home to a hospital where her owner, Nancy Franck, was recovering from surgery.

Francks's husband Dale had let the dogs out to use the bathroom Wednesday when Sissy bolted, KWWL reports.

Dale said he panicked and frantically searched the house for Sissy before receiving a call from Mercy Medical Center four hours later.

“We started looking at the tags and it had the address and we saw how far away this dog had lived, as far as going at least fifteen blocks to get here. So, it was quite an amazing journey that this dog made,” Hospital security guard Samantha Conrad said in an interview with KCRG.

Security cameras at the hospital caught Sissy roaming the entrance and hallways before being picked up by hospital workers.

“She wanted to go see her mom. She was on a mission but she couldn't find the right elevator to take,” Dale told KCRG.

Once they identified the pup, hospital officials took her to Nancy's room for a short visit.

While Nancy says she still doesn't know how Sissy found her way to the hospital, she's grateful for the the dog's impromptu visit.
