Former Adams County Chief Deputy indicted on 5 new charges

ADAMS COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

The Former Adams County Chief Deputy who pleaded not guilty Tuesday to allegations of raping a 15-year-old girl was indicted Thursday on five new charges.

Jeffery McCarty was originally charged with first degree rape felony when he was arrested on Sunday.  He now faces a second first degree rape felony, two third degree felonies of sexual battery and two third degree felonies of unlawful sexual conduct.

Sheriff Kimmy Rogers says McCarty spent 26 years with the Adams County Sheriff's Office serving under four different sheriffs. Rogers says McCarty was the one who notified him of the allegations in early January.

"I received a call from our Chief Deputy saying there were allegations being made against him that were of a sexual nature,” said Rogers.

The Adams County Police say that immediately upon learning of serious allegations of off duty sexual misconduct involving McCarty, Sheriff Kimmy Rogers contacted the Adams Prosecutors Office.

According to Sheriff Rogers, he requested the Adams County Prosecutor to conduct an independent investigations into the allegations.

McCarty is due in court Friday at 9 a.m. for his arraignment.
