Ohio River To Begin To Drop

Forecasters say Ohio River to begin gradual drop by tonight

Forecasters say the rain-swollen Ohio River is leveling off at Cincinnati and should begin a gradual decline by tonight.

Eastern Ohio residents forced from their homes because of high water have been allowed to return. The Ohio hit a peak today of 53-point-one feet at Cincinnati, a little over a foot above the 52-foot flood stage. The National Weather Service predicts the river will fall below the Cincinnati flood stage by midday Wednesday - for the first time since January seventh. Two to four inches of snow fell on parts of Ohio yesterday, creating slick roads. The State Highway Patrol said the road conditions may have contributed to a two-car accident in Canal Winchester that killed one person.
