A woman was hospitalized Tuesday after colliding an SUV with a train in Ryland Heights.

The CSX train clipped a Toyota SUV around 8:15 a.m. on Ryland Lakes Drive.

Initial investigations reveal the SUV drove onto the crossing without seeing the approaching train, according to Kenton County officials.

The crossing was marked by standard railroad signs, but there were not lights or gates blocking the tracks.

The female driver of the SUV was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, officials say.

“This collision serves as a reminder that, before crossing any railroad tracks, drivers should carefully look both ways in order to visually confirm that no train is coming,” stated a release from Kenton County officials.

The accident shut down rail traffic and the crossing for two hours.
