The families of three women whose corpses were sexually abused by an attendant at a Hamilton County morgue have settled their lawsuit against the county, attorneys announced on Tuesday.

The settlement will include an $800,000 payment to the families and additional non-economic terms that have yet to be finalized, according to attorneys representing the families.

The case against Hamilton County and the estates of a former county coroner and his supervisor was supposed to begin trial on Monday.

Kenneth Douglas, a former morgue attendant, was convicted in 2009 of sexually abusing corpses from 1982 to 1991. The victims' families will pursue $2.4 million in damages from Douglas, who is serving a six-year prison sentence.

“The sexual abuse of the bodies of these young women in the Morgue was shocking and horrible. The families have fought for justice since they first discovered the abuse six years ago, state Al Gerhardstein, one of the counsel for the families. He said the families are satisfied with the settlement terms.
