Ohio Division of Wildlife is offering a reward for information about the recent shooting of a bald eagle in Preble County.

Officials found the eagle shot on Saturday in an area northeast of Eaton.

The birds are protected under federal law by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

The poaching of bald eagles in the area does not frequently happen, according to State Wildlife Officer Brad Turner.

Officials declined to elaborate on the type of weapon used to shoot the animal as the case is still under investigation.

The reward is in exchange for details leading to the arrest and conviction of suspected poachers, ODNR says. Anyone with information is asked to call Turner at 937-372-5639, ext. 5219.
