CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

A 21-year-old will spend three years in jail after being convicted of shaking, hitting and biting an 8-month-old in a 2013 incident that kept the child in intensive care unit for three weeks.

Dakota Doss, of Amelia, was sentenced Thursday for two felony counts of endangering children.

Doss called 911 on June 2, 2013 to report that his girlfriend's child was choking and having difficulty breathing. Authorities said he was home alone babysitting while the mother was at work.

“The defendant gave several conflicting statements to law enforcement which included admissions to biting her inner thigh, hitting her backside, and shaking the child,” according to Scott C. O'Reilly, Clermont County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

The child had to undergo surgery and the incident affected her eyesight and cognitive functioning, prosecutors say.
