SHARONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Police are searching for a convicted felon accused of robbing another man at gunpoint inside a hotel room overnight.

Derrick Birch, 24, is wanted on one count of aggravated robbery.

Officers responded to the Red Roof Inn off East Sharon Road and Interstate 75 about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The victim told police he met Birch through a mutual acquaintance and entered a hotel room with him, said Sgt. Scott Tamm.

After the victim took a shower and emerged from the bathroom, Birch is accused of robbing him of his wallet, $700 in cash, gift cards, a cell phone and red, 2008 Chevy Impala, Hamilton County court records show.

“He pulled a gun on him and said he would kill him if he called the police,” Tamm said.

The suspect fled in the victim's vehicle.

Police put out a description of the Impala. Officers in nearby Springfield Township spotted it at Winton and Compton roads and attempted to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop.

A brief chase ensued, but police called it off due to the heavy rain, Tamm said.

The Impala was found crashed a short time later nearby. Birch ran off and remains at large.

Court records show he has an extensive criminal record. He served time in a state prison following a 2009 conviction for robbing another man at gunpoint. He also was locked up again in 2013 after pleading guilty to illegally having a firearm while being a convicted felon.

Other convictions include drug possession and failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer.

Anyone who sees him is asked to contact Sharonville police: 513-563-1147 and Crime Stoppers: 513-352-3040.
