DELHI, OH (FOX19) -

Mount St. Joseph freshman Lauren Hill earned Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason honors on Wednesday when she was named to the All-HCAC first team. Hill, diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor (DIPG), made five layups in four games this season before she became an honorary coach on the team.

"This award is being presented to Lauren in recognition of her courage and outstanding leadership,” said HCAC Commissioner, Chris Ragsdale. “Lauren has been a tremendous inspiration and role model for all student-athletes across the country. She has shown through
her leadership and dedication how one individual can truly make a difference.”

Hill wasn't expected to play two games this season, much less an entire season, but in the process, she raised more than $1 million towards research with “The Cure Starts Now” organization.

Upper Deck also designed a special Heroic Inspirations rookie card in honor of Lauren Hill with all proceeds going towards “The Cure Starts Now.”
