FOX19 -

Cornell's chilling words are sending shock waves throughout the Tri-State Muslim community.

There was talk that Cornell visited local mosques, but on Monday, the Muslim community painted a different picture of this terror suspect.

"Chris Cornell was not a part of our community, he does not know our community, our community does not know him," said Karen Dabdoub with the Cincinnati Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Dabdoub said Cornell's message in an exclusive interview with FOX19 Now was horrible, but also ridiculous.

"It struck me as someone who was out for self-aggrandizement, perhaps out to scare people," said Dabdoub.

Dabdoub believes this 20-year-old most likely got all his information of Islam from the internet, and has a miss-informed, radical Islamic view.

"He really doesn't know what Islam teaches. It certainly teaches that we are not permitted to kill innocent people. There's no ifs, ands, or buts about that," said Dabdoub.

But with words from this interview, Dabdoub said unfortunately the anti-Muslim sentiment grows.

"There are people who will take something like what Chris Cornell said and use it against the rest of us," said Dabdoub.

Dabdoub adds the headlines ISIS is making doesn't help. She says thankfully they aren't seeing threats locally, but they're definitely out there.

"We're seeing an increase in actual threats and actual threats on Muslims and on Mosques around the country over the last few weeks and few months. We've seen a definite increase and it's very concerning," said Dabdoub.

Dabdoub also acknowledged that she wishes Cornell would have come to one of their mosques. She believes she could have steered him in the right direction.
