There's a new sign of Asia's growing wealth and influence. Better Homes and Gardens plans a Chinese-language edition for China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore. The magazine's Iowa-based publisher, Meredith Corporation, says content will be localized for the new readers, with obvious cultural differences. One official says consumers in China are becoming more affluent and place a great emphasis on home, cooking and gardening. This is Meredith's first non-English publishing version. But other magazines, such as Good Housekeeping, have already tapped into the Chinese home and family genre.
