Cincinnati radio legend Jim Scott is retiring from 700 WLW-AM after nearly half a century behind the microphone.

The morning show host's last day is April 3 and Mike McConnell takes over the 5 to 9 a.m. hours on the Reds' opening day.

“It's time to start saying goodbye,” said Scott in the Tuesday morning on-air announcement with The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band playing in the background.

Scott came to Cincinnati in 1968 and has been claiming the airwaves on 700 WLW in a number one spot for years. He received in 2002 the Marconi Award for Large Market Radio Personality of the Year.

“47 years of waking up the Tri-State has been such a privilege," said Scott. "I'm looking forward to saying thank you on the air till my favorite day of the year Opening Day. See you in the Findlay Market Parade."

McConnell hosted mid-days on WLW for 25 years before leaving in 2010 for a gig at WGN Chicago. He returned to Cincinnati last year.
