HIGHLAND HEIGHTS (FOX19) -

Northern Kentucky University announced that Dave Bezold will not return as the men's head basketball coach.

“This is difficult given Dave's role in our university and our community,” said Athletic Director Ken Bothof. “Dave is a good man and has given much of himself to the development of the young men in our basketball program. I am grateful for his service and wish him and his family well.”

Bezold served as NKU's head coach for 11 seasons, with a 194-133 record. This season, Bezold led the Norse to a 13-17 record and 7-7 (tied for fourth place) in the Atlantic Sun.

The men's basketball team has completed its third-year of a four-year transition to Division I. The Norse will be eligible to reach the NCAA tournament in the 2016-17 season.

The school said a national search for Bezold's replacement will begin immediately.
