The securities fraud trial of former state representative Peter Beck is underway.

Hamilton County Common Pleas Court Judge John Andrew West began proceedings Monday. Prosecutors are expected to call dozens of witnesses Tuesday as they try to prove Beck, 62, mislead investors and used their money for personal gain

The certified public accountant and former Mason mayor is indicted on a whopping 59 counts in all, including engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity, perjury and money laundering.

If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 102 years in prison.

The Republican quit his state legislative seat late last year.

Co-conspirators who were indicted with Beck in connection with their activities involving Ohio software company Christopher Technologies LLC or CTech have taken plea deals and are expected to testify against him.
