CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - If you've driven around the Banks, you may have noticed a giant carousel taking shape at Smale Riverfront Park.

Master wood carvers are hand-crafting the $1 million showpiece about four hours away in Mansfield.

“Carol Ann's Carousel” is under construction by an Ohio company who claims to be world's largest manufacturer of wooden carousels.

A $4.5 million building that also will hold a banquet and conference center will house the amusement ride.

Building is well underway with glass walls and roofing all in place just west of the Roebling Suspension Bridge along the central riverfront.

Project officials say carousel is on schedule to open May 16.

Other features:

  • Three rows of animals for a total of 44 characters
  • Year-round operation
  • Nominal cost to ride
