MADISONVILLE, OH (FOX19) -

Residents of Kings Tower Apartments say they haven't been given adequate opportunities to remove belongings from the boarded-up Madisonville apartment complex.

20 people were displaced last Thursday in the fire that left Cincinnati firefighter Daryl Gordon dead. The 30-year veteran fell down an elevator shaft while searching the building for victims.

Resident Kia Chenault said Boston-based Community Builders, owners of the complex, allowed one day to retrieve items from her apartment, but that the she was initially unable to get in on Monday.

“We can't get in our apartment if our apartment's boarded up. So we're basically just waiting,” said Chenault.

After FOX19 NOW spoke with Chenault, management removed the boards so she could get inside.

Community Builders says hotel rooms are being provided for residents through April 15 and that they'll assist in finding new apartments for the same subsidized rent at Kings.
