QUEENSGATE, OH (FOX19) -

Six train cars derailed from an elevated track as a train headed into the CSX yard near 3rd and Gest streets Thursday.

Cincinnati Police, hazmat and CSX crews responded around 11 p.m. when the covered hopper cars derailed.

“The cars remained on the elevated track, and the site of the derailment is over CSX property so there is no danger to the public. No hazardous materials are involved. There were no injuries to the crew,” said Rob Doolittle, a spokesperson for CSX.

One of the cars carried plastic pellets. The other five cars were empty.

“CSX is responding with crews to re-rail the cars and restore service to the line, but it will be several hours before re-railing begins,” said Doolittle.

Cranes were installed Friday afternoon to hold up the cars.

The cause of the derailment is unknown and CSX is investigating.

Crews finished cleaning up the train cars Saturday.  Gest Street has reopened in both directions between Linn and Pete Rose Way. 3rd Street is open between Gest and Linn.
