Nearly 400 free smoke alarms were donated to Cincinnati families on Tuesday.

The smoke alarms were donated by Safeco Insurance at the request of Cincinnati council member P.G. Sittenfeld and Diehause Insurance Group. City firehouses will distribute the alarms to residents in need throughout the area.

"I'm glad to have initiated this partnership to help keep more citizens safe and to promote best practices in fire safety for our community," said Sittenfeld. "Safeco's generous contribution will help save lives."

The campaign will focus to distribute the alarms and fire safety techniques to hispanic residents throughout the 52 Cincinnati neighborhoods.

“Safeco has a long tradition of giving to communities on behalf of our agent partners, and we are proud to donate $5,000 to the Cincinnati Fire District for the purchase of smoke alarms on behalf of Driehaus Insurance Group, which shares our value to help families protect what matters most,” said Matt Warye, Regional General Manager for Safeco Insurance.
