A former church once destined for demolition has been transformed into a three-level brewery, restaurant and bar.

Taft's Ale House on 14th and Race Street opened to the public April 6.

The former St. Paul's Evangelical church, constructed in 1850, houses the brewery. Its namesake is Cincinnati native and 27th President of the United States William Howard Taft.

The brewery cranks out three beers on a consistent basis plus nine more that continually change. The main floor has a large beer hall with eight communal tables.

Wrapping above the beer hall is a mezzanine, which has more intimate tables, a private room, a second bar and a lounge area. The ground floor is called Big Billy's Basement.
