CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Releasing a teenager wounded in a shooting that killed an innocent bystander outside the YMCA in Walnut Hills would be a death sentence, a juvenile court judge said Thursday.

Leontre Edwards, 17, appeared before Hamilton County Juvenile Court Judge Sylvia Hendon on a parole violation.

He was shot in the arm April 4 while attending a Sweet 16 party that ended in a barrage of gunfire outside that killed Purcell Marian High School student Kelsie Crow, 17.

"A year at (state juvenile detention) is nothing compared to that. Nothing. Life in a wheelchair, being fed by somebody else for the rest of your life," Heldon told the teen.

This is not the first time he has been shot, said his mother, Shawna Washington. Leontre is recovering from an earlier shooting.

"He didn't intentionally get shot. He was at a party, he knew the girl whose party it was. And he wasn't the only person who got shot, the people weren't just shooting at him," Washington told the judge.

"But here's my question," Hendon responded. "If he was on house arrest when this latest shooting occurred, why was he out?"

Edwards will remain at the county's juvenile jail in Mt. Auburn until his next court appearance on May 7.

Police are still searching for the shooter at the Walnut Hills YMCA. No arrests have been made.

The reward for information leading to the conviction of the gunman who killed Crow was increased this week to $10,000.
