Police charge teens in connection to murder of UK student

A Perrysville, Ohio man was shot and killed in an off campus incident near the University of Kentucky early Friday morning.

Lexington police say Jonathan Krueger, 22, a UK student, was walking with another person on East Maxwell near Transylvania Park when a shooting occurred during a robbery at around 2:07 a.m.

According to officials, they found the victim lying in the street.  Krueger was transported to UK Chandler Hospital and was pronounced dead by the coroner at 2:35 a.m.

“We've updated the family on our investigation and our thoughts and prayers are with them,” said Police Chief Mark Barnard, who talked to Krueger's father Friday morning.

Krueger was also a member of  the Epsilon Omicron Chapter of Beta Theta Pi.

Police charged 18-year-old Justin Smith in connection to the shooting death of Krueger. Smith was also charged with robbery, tampering with physical evidence and fleeing and evading. Efrain Diaz, 20, of Lexington was also arrest and charged with murder and first-degree robbery in connection to the incident as well.
