(FOX19) - MLB's Hit King will soon be a baseball analyst for FOX Sports.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal announced Saturday that Pete Rose will serve FOX as a guest analyst for the MLB on FOX pregame show on FOX and FOX Sports 1.  Rose will also appear on "MLB Whiparound," "America's Pregame" and "FOX Sports Live" on FOX Sports 1.

"I enjoy talking baseball, and that's what this is all about," Rose told Rosenthal Thursday. "Enjoying the game of baseball, sitting in the green room watching two or three games, getting on TV and talking about it. It's right up my alley, I think."

According to FOX officials, they say they are hiring Rose for his on-air presence and that he will make for compelling television regardless of how one views his controversial past.

Baseball's all-time hits leader with 4,256, agreed to a lifetime ban in August 1989 following an investigation by Major League Baseball that concluded he bet on the Cincinnati Reds to win while managing the team.

Rose filed a new request to Major League Baseball's Commissioner to be reinstated on March 16.

Rob Manfred, just appointed Commissioner in January, said "I do have a formal request from Pete. What I intend to do is be in communication with his representatives, and we'll talk about how we'll handle it from a process perspective," according to an AP report.

"I just did what I had to do," Rose told FOX19 NOW. "That's all."

FOX, a broadcast partner of the MLB, did not require the sport's permission to hire Rose.  However, network officials said they made baseball fully aware of their decision about Rose.

"As a courtesy, FOX informed us that they were interviewing Pete Rose for an on-air studio position," said Pat Courtney, baseball's chief communications officer. "The decision to hire on-air talent for its telecasts rests solely with FOX."

No word on when Rose will make his first appearance on FOX.
