CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - More than 36,000 people are expected to participate when the 17th Annual Flying Pig Marathon kicks off in less than two weeks.

In light of the Boston Marathon bombings that killed three people and hurt 264 in 2013, local marathon organizers now perform a security audit of the entire race course with Cincinnati police.

They don't share the security details, but they do say that they have full cooperation from local police, fire, FBI, and U.S. Homeland Security officials.

Backpacks are prohibited once again at the race this year. Participants and spectators can get free, clear bags at the Flying Pig expo May 1-2 at Duke Energy Convention Center.

Spectators are asked to keep an eye out and be sure to report suspicious activity.

The race kicks off 6:30 a.m. May 3 at Mehring Way and Elm Street.
