CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
Xavier announced Wednesday that the Musketeers will play the Michigan Wolverines in the inaugural Gavitt Tipoff Games during the 2015-2016 men's college basketball season.
The Musketeers will travel to Ann Arbor on Friday, Nov. 20. It is one of eight games set to air on FOX Sports 1, Big Ten Network, or an ESPN Network from Nov. 17-20.
It marks the first time Xavier and Michigan have met since the 1989 NCAA Tournament. Michigan beat the Muskies 92-87, the Wolverines were led by Glen Rice and Rumeal Robinson who had 23 points each. Xavier was led by long-time NBA standouts, Tyrone Hill and Derek Strong. The Wolverines eventually went on to win the 1989 National Championship.
Beginning in 2015 and scheduled through 2022, the Gavitt Tipoff Games is an annual early-season series played between the Big Ten and BIG EAST conferences and named in honor of Dave Gavitt, founder of the BIG EAST and basketball visionary
