Officials say charges are pending against a woman who crashed into five construction workers Wednesday as the crew worked on Cox Road.

Four workers were on the ground and another in a cherry-picker bucket around 3:30 p.m. when the Chevrolet Cavalier drove left of center and into the workers and a parked utility truck, according to West Chester Township Police.

The victims were taken to area hospitals with unknown injuries. One person was reportedly transported via AirCare to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

The driver, identified by police as 23-year-old Michele Schuster, was also taken to the hospital. Her condition is unknown.

“We'll have to determine the status of everyone and determine what the appropriate charges are,” said Lt. Barry Walker.

The victims have been identified as Tiffanie McCants, 35, of Cincinnati; Billy Moore, 47, of Hustonville, Kentucky; Joseph Olephant, 53, of Sonora, Kentucky; Amber Marie Rooks, 24, of Norwood; and Blake Patton, 22, of Cleves.

Duke Energy had contracted the workers and they were in a marked construction zone with police detail in the area.

"There's only so much that they can do to protect themselves. We rely on the motoring public to pay attention to the signage and cones, and to make sure that they're travelling safely,” said Walker.

Two workers were from Area Wide Protective, likely as a flagging crew. The other three are from Bowlin Energy Services. A Duke Energy rep says both companies have been regular Duke contractors for many years.
