Clifton residents have raised nearly $1 million to become the owners of the Old Keller's IGA.

The Clifton Co-op Market announced on Friday that the group purchased the former grocery in the 300 block of Ludlow Avenue.

Community members began raising money for the project last year through selling ownership shares in the market. 960 people have purchased shares so far, according to the group.

Organizers say they're launching another phase of fundraising to help cover construction costs, which means more owner shares will be sold.

The market will sell organic and local produce, meat, seafood, beer, wine, pet food and health and baby products. The group says the grocery could bring 15,000 people each week to Ludlow Avenue.
