Sale events are a store's way of getting shoppers in the door in hopes they'll spend more money than planned.

Be aware of these sneaky store strategies to avoid becoming a sales sucker:

Retailers know that deals lure consumers in the store. Once inside, they bet on shoppers being distracted by other shiny objects that are not on sale and purchase those items too.

Stores set “traps” near items everyone wants to buy. For example, around the holidays grocery stores put premium items near the meat cases and baking aisles – two of the most visited grocery areas.

In department stores clearance items are on racks in the back of the store with pricey roadblocks setup along the way.
