COPY-3CDC website hacked with ISIS-inspired message

A group claiming to support ISIS hacked the website for Cincinnati non-profit 3CDC on Friday with a statement supporting the extremist group.

The home page is replaced with a black and white photo of a masked man and a message that it had been “Hacked By Team System DZ.”

The message calls on governments of the world to “restore the right of Muslims who have been killed by your governments savage and unjust.”

Websites for Fountain Square and Washington Park, which are managed by 3CDC, were also hacked with the same directive. The message did not name any specific reason for targeting the groups.

Brittney Carden, Communications Manager for 3CDC, says the organization is aware of the situation.

“While our sites have been hacked, they were not done so by any actual terrorist groups. We are working with our team to resolve the issues,” said Carden via email.

Federal officials investigated a similar situation last month when the websites for Montgomery Inn and Moerlein Lager House were taken on by hackers claiming to support the Islamic State. In that incident, a cyber analyst said the attack was most likely not targeted at Cincinnati but rather at websites with vulnerable security.

3CDC, the Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation, is a development and finance organization that focuses on downtown neighborhood revitalization projects.

It is not clear if officials are investigating this recent cyber hack.
