Viagra Medicare

The Bush Administration announced it's expanding it's Medicare drug benefit program to include Viagra, and other erectile dysfunction medication.  Medicare covers all necessary procedures and prescriptions for persons 65 years old and older, so Viagra would qualify wouldn't it?

Dr. Randall Cox, Montgomery Family Practice, " Erectile Dysfunction is a disease like high blood pressure they need medication to take care of the problem." While not life saving other doctors add that medicare does cover other life "enhancing" drugs. Dr. Ginger, Kubala, "Does Medicare cover Anti-depressants? Yes."

The government has estimated that the new drug beneit will cost more than $500 billion dollars from 2006-2013. While being able to afford Viagra may sound good to seniors, Medicare cautions, it may try to control the use of sexual performance drugs by limiting the number of prescriptions patients get.
