Labor: unemployment rate down, payrolls surge
The government reports the nation's unemployment rate has dropped two-tenths to five-point-two percent. At the same time, the Labor Department says 146-thousand jobs were added to payrolls. While the payrolls number is weaker than expected, it is the highest number since October. Manufacturing employment is said to have declined by 25-thousand jobs, while services added 177-thousand. Earlier this week, as the Federal Reserve raised interest rates again, the central bank signaled it is pretty comfortable with the job market.
