Bond set at $50k for Amber Alert suspect

MILFORD, OH (FOX19) -

Bond was set at $50,000 Tuesday for the 21-year-old Clermont County man accused of stealing his mother's car with his toddler sister inside, prompting police to issue an Amber Alert.

Donovan Wayne Coleman is held at the county jail on charges of grand theft auto. 

He was arrested Monday night and released from the jail on his own recognizance. His parents accompanied him into the brief hearing, but the judge insisted he leave in handcuffs.

His sister, Agnes Burgess, 22 months, was inside the back of a Toyota Matrix parked outside a Milford pawn shop when he jumped in and drove off early Monday, police say.

Relatives told police Coleman is know to use heroin and could be trying to buy drugs. So police issued an Amber Alert for the child.

She was found safe about 2 p.m. inside a home on Winnebago Avenue in Milford.

The stolen vehicle was empty when police located in several hours later in the 400 block of West Seymour Avenue in Roselawn. He sold it for money to buy heroin, according to Cincinnati police.

Cincinnati officers took Coleman into custody.

Officials say additional charges against Coleman are pending.
