Inmate Indicted On Baker Case

Grand jury indicts inmate in case of girl missing for six year

A prison inmate has been indicted on charges of abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence in the 1999 disappearance of a nine-year-old Dayton-area girl.

Montgomery County Prosecutor Mathias Heck Junior announced the grand jury indictment today against 33-year-old Christian John Gabriel. He's an inmate at the Southeastern Correctional Institution near Lancaster. Gabriel is the first person to be charged in the disappearance of Erica Baker. She vanished six years ago while walking her dog in the Dayton suburb of Kettering and her body has never been found.

Gabriel has not been charged in the girl's death, but the prosecutor says the investigation is continuing.
