BOONE COUNTY, KY (FOX19) -
A man and a 9-year-old girl are in critical condition Friday after a head-on crash in Boone County late Thursday.
Todd Freyler, 45, of Warsaw, was driving a 2005 Hyundai Accent northbound on U .S. 42 near Mudlick Road crossed the center line and slammed into an oncoming white Mazda MPV mini-van just after 9 p.m., said Major Tom Scheben of the Boone County Sheriff's Office.
The impact forced the Mazda off the road and into a nearby ditch. The Hyundai came to a stop perpendicular to the road, blocking both lanes of travel.
Freyler was flown via AirCare to University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The child, who was a front seat passenger on the Mazda, Heidi Guzman Lopez. of Warsaw, was flown to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center.
Both suffered life-threatening injuries.
The child's mother was behind the wheel of the Mazda. Alicia Lopez Bautista also was flown to UCMC and is listed in stable condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
