Fans evacuate after smokestack catches fire at GABP

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Fire responded to a fire inside the right smokestack at Great American Ball Park Friday night.

The 1-alarm fire started in the bottom of the sixth-inning of the Reds game against the San Francisco Giants.

Fire crews evacuated two of the right field stands and were able to get two ladders up to the smokestacks to put the fire out in the top of the seventh-inning.  The game continued on as the smoke filled in the air. 

The Reds posted a note to fans inside the stadium saying that the fire was started because of a malfunction and that the fire has been contained and the issue was no threat to the fans. 

No injuries were reported.

The Reds thanked the Cincinnati Fire Department for their help Friday night.

 
Cincinnati Fire and EMS tweeted that they have first responders on hand at every Reds game.



During one of the innings, the Reds played "We Didn't Start the Fire" by Billy Joel.

The Reds post-game Star Wars themed fireworks were still schedule to go on as planned after the 10-2 loss.
