A woman is dead and a child is injured after they were shot inside their home in Winton Hills early Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred on Chickering Ave. near East Epworth Ave. just after midnight.

The woman, 49-year-old Jean Elliott, was transported to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

The child was taken to Children's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The two other children inside the house at the time of the incident were not injured.

"Now, I am very scared and leery. You know this person could be anywhere. You know, he could be looking at me right now. It's scary,” said Cassandra Green, a neighbor.

Police do not know the cause of the shooting or identified a suspect at this time.

"Never have I noticed anything out of the ordinary on this street, on my street and on the streets up here. It is a quiet, older, good neighborhood and the fact that happened is absolutely insane,” said Andrea Phillips.
