Planning commission approves Banks hotel plans

The city's planning commission approved the new AC Hotel by Marriott set for construction at The Banks Friday.

The seven-story hotel will be built on the southwest corner of Joe Nuxhall Way and Freedom Way.

Cincinnati’s Urban Design Review Board unanimously approved the final design earlier last month after board members panned the plans and requested a more distinctive look.

Board Member Paul Muller said the high level of construction and design at nearby Smale Park has created a unique challenge.

“It would be nice if the commercial construction could match that same level of quality,” he said.
The Urban Design and Review Board is an advisory committee to City Manager Harry Black, who ultimately signed off on the project.
The AC Marriott is a $35 million dollar project that is scheduled to start construction this fall, with a Spring 2017 opening.
