CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Six city pools are in jeopardy of opening late this summer due to a lifeguard shortage.

The Cincinnati Recreation Commission still needs 65 lifeguards. CRC officials say this is the shortest they've ever been.

Four pools are expected to open for Memorial Day weekend. Facilities set to open in June are the concern.

"We normally get our best response once kids get out of school, but we have found that more and more students are now required to do internships and are unable to get outside summer jobs," said Bunny Arszman with CRC.

CRC is seeking anyone 15 years or older to attend lifeguard training courses to fill the vacant positions.

The pay starts at $9.23 per hour and previous lifeguard experience counts toward higher pay rates.

The next lifeguard training course is 5:30 p.m. Friday at Mt. Auburn Indoor Pool, 270 Southern Ave.
