Bloggers are using colored pencils as eyeliner in the latest beauty craze and it's prompted a warning from Crayola about the potentially dangerous do-it-yourself method.
Several online tutorials detail how to soak the colored pencils in hot water and then use them to create a bright and bold eyeliner. One of the videos has garnered more than one million views on YouTube.
Bloggers tout the “nontoxic” labels as confirmation the pencils won't harm your skin, but Crayola says that's most definitely not the case.
In a blunt statement posted on Crayola's website, the company reminds the public that their products are not designed, tested or approved to be used as makeup.
“Although our products are nontoxic, we do not recommend using them to make lipstick, eyeliner or other make-up and strongly discourage their use in this manner,” the statement reads.
Colored pencils have not been approved by the FDA for use on the skin, but there's always the tried and true drugstore eyeliner that can achieve the same look.
