WALTON, KY (FOX19) -

The Boone County Sheriff's office is searching for a suspect who allegedly robbed a BP gas station and assaulted a clerk early Wednesday morning.

Officials say a man brandishing a handgun robbed the BP gas station at around 12:40 a.m. located in the 100 block of Mary Grubs Highway between Interstate 75 and School Road.

The suspect allegedly assaulted the clerk by punching and kicking her in the face, police said.

Police describe the robbery as a white male, between 25 to 30 years old, wearing glasses with a goatee, medium build, wearing a blue Michigan Wolverines hooded sweatshirt with maize colored lettering and stripes running lengthwise on the outside of the sleeves.  He also was wearing a blue and gray striped knit hat, blue jeans and brown work boots. Police believe the suspect has a tattoo on the outside of his right hand and possibly on the right side of his neck.

The clerk reported to police seeing a dark colored SUV speed out of the lot.
