COLERAIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) -
The 12-year-old girl who was hit by a car Sunday afternoon has passed away, the Butler County Coroner confirms.
Bridgette Shepherd was walking on Pippin Road near Townterrace Drive when she was struck. She suffered head trauma and succumbed to her injuries several hours later at Mercy Fairfield Hospital.
Police say the driver stopped and cooperated with officers and it is not clear if speed played a factor. Pippin Road sees several accidents each week, according to Sgt. Dale Woods with Colerain Police.
Amanda Payton says she did everything she could for Bridgette. After hearing the crash, Payton says she ran to help performing CPR until paramedics arrived.
"She just was not breathing for me. I started screaming at her telling her to breathe. I kept counting compressions. Still, it was doing nothing," said Payton.
Neighbors say they want a crosswalk or a stoplight at the intersection to make sure all their children are safe.
Police say there is not a crosswalk at the intersection and the children should not have attempted to cross. As for the driver, police are investigating the crash and charges have not been filed.
