Officials: Alcohol involved in fatal Bracken Co. accident

Police say alcohol was a factor in an early-morning accident that killed one and seriously injured several more in Bracken County.

According to the Kentucky State Police, Mathew Gilbert, 27, was driving northbound on KY-539 around 2:02 a.m. when he lost control of his Dodge pickup truck. The truck spun and struck a tree on the driver's side.

Jacob Ammerman, 19-year-old of Falmouth, was sitting in the back seat on the driver's side of the truck at the time of the accident. Officials pronounced Ammerman dead at the scene.

Gilbert and five other passengers were transported to the University of Cincinnati and University of Kentucky Medical Centers with serious injuries.

The names of the injured victims have not been released at this time.

Gilbert is cited for driving under the influence, six counts of wanton endangerment, no seat belt and failure to produce an insurance card. Kentucky State Police say the accident is still under investigation and more charges could follow.
