CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A local comedian said he was expressing himself when he was arrested at the Taste of Cincinnati over the weekend.

Forest Thomer, from Kentucky, was arrested on Saturday after holding a sign in the Taste crowd that read 'F--- you, I'm a mother f-----.'

Thomer said the sign was to grab attention and to promote his book. He found attention from the Cincinnati Police Department. He believes he was in his right to display the sign.

Thomer posted the video of his arrest on social media. The video shows a conversation between him and a local police officer.

"You used profanity," said the police officer.

"That's not against the law," Thomer replied.

"It is today," respond the officer in the video.

Thomer says he has used the sign before in crowded areas and was not arrested. His car brands the same saying as the the sign he was holding on Saturday. At the end of Thomer's interview with FOX19 NOW a passerby commented on the car's unique choice of branding.

"It sounds like you're trying to get attention by pissing people off," said the passerby.

Thomer says he plans to defend himself in court.
