Denise Johnson: Rolling on the river

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - This weekend was the official kick-off to summer, and what a beautiful one it was. The weather was picture perfect-- so my family and I, along with hundreds of other people, spent the weekend boating on the mighty Ohio River.  We spent about 10 hours over two days rolling on the river from Melbourne to Warsaw, Kentucky.

We started out at the Licking, then heading north past Old Coney and continuing to my old river camp in Melbourne. When making your way back down the river toward the city, you realize a different beauty about Cincinnati that you don't see from any other angle. As we passed under the Purple People Bridge we watched a wedding take place on the bridge, just over the river with Cincinnati as the backdrop for their special day.

We hit Ludlow, where we grabbed a bite to eat at the Ludlow Bromley Yacht Club. The floating barge was packed with people ready for the summer and enjoying being out on the water.

Our journey didn't end there. We continued south on the river, past Petersburg, Aurora, Rising Sun, Rabbit Hash, Patriot and Big Bone, finally ending our journey in Warsaw by the Sunset Grill.

We passed hundreds of camps lining the banks of the river, other boaters and even a privately-owned island in the middle of the river.
