Report: Cincinnati shootings at 10-year high

The number of Cincinnati shootings has climbed to a ten year high.

As of May 24, 199 people have been shot in the past six months, according to a report by the University of Cincinnati Institute of Crime Science. That's more shooting victims in a six-month time frame than any year in the past decade.

Three more people were fatally shot just days after the latest violence report was presented to the city's Law and Public Safety Committee.

A 15-year-old boy was gunned down Tuesday in Walnut Hills and later died at the hospital. Violence continued Wednesday and Thursday with two deadly shootings in Westwood and Bond Hill.

That makes for 27 homicides so far this year, which is about average for recent years.

It's the amount of shootings that have Cincinnati Police concerned. Police Chief Jeffrey Blackwell echoed that sentiment at a Bond Hill homicide scene on Thursday.

“We need folks in this city to stand up and say enough is enough,” said Blackwell on the scene of a Bond Hill homicide on Thursday. “Clearly we can't do it all by ourselves.”
