Eight people were rescued from a burning apartment building early Friday.
No one was hurt when flames broke about 3:45 a.m. at Clovernook Chateau Apartments West Galbraith Road near Pippin Road, Colerain Township fire officials said.
But someone from inside the apartment building called 911 and reported heavy flames and smoke in the hallway. At one point, the caller was choking on smoke.
When fire crews arrived, a woman and her children were trying to escape out the top story of a building in the back of the complex. Firefighters put tall ladders up against the structure to save them.
Six people in all were rescued from the top floor, and two were evacuated from the lower floor.
The American Red Cross is on scene assisting displaced families.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. It appears the fire started in a stairwell.
A damage estimate was not immediately available.
FOX19 NOW has a crew at the scene and will continue to update this breaking story.
