RIVERSIDE (FOX19) -

Bond was set at $1.75 million Friday for the suspect accused of severely beating a Riverside couple earlier this week, killing one of them.

Michael Barnett, 48,is held on two counts of felonious assault at the Hamilton County jail. Charges are expected to be upgraded after Stephen Snodgrass, 61, died Thursday night.

Snodgrass and his girlfriend, Patricia Tempke, were both beaten and Tempke also was stabbed about 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 3900 block of River Road.

Tempke is expected to recover, but doctors told police there was no hope for Snodgrass. He died at 10 p.m. Thursday, police said early Friday.

Barnett was taken into custody at the scene and arrested shortly after.

Tempke's family released a statement Thursday expressing their condolences for Snodgrass' death. They said she will support police and prosecutors to ensure that Barnett is held accountable.
