This is my good friend Matt in the selfie with me. He's the husband of former FOX19 NOW news anchor and “What's Hot!”specialist Regina Russo.
This week his dream came true. He opened his own restaurant downtown, near Mr. Sushi. The breakfast/lunch spot has been tumbling around in Matt's mind for about 10 years now. It started when he would use the old skywalk system to get around town when he worked as Executive Chef of Chiquita.
That's when Matt noticed an empty space in the 580 building. It sat empty for years and Matt dreamed for years. Prime location, with 1,500 people walking by every weekday. Then it was announced that the floors above would be turning high-end residential. Matt signed the papers last year, and has been working behind the scenes for the grand opening this week.
I've stopped by and the food is great. Everything cooked in-house, from scratch. No deli meat here: everything's slow-roasted. Gourmet to Go is open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by if you can. Be a part of Matt's dream. When I saw him this
week, he looked happily tired. I'm proud of my friend and happy for him.
The takeaway: If you have unrealized dreams, revisit them. Maybe even make them a reality.
