Panama City votes to ban alcohol for spring break '16

America's spring break capital - Panama City Beach, Fla is known as a spot for college students to enjoy week-long parties, ocean-side concerts, and all day beach-drinking... until now.

Panama City council met on Tuesday, May 26, reading three ordinances related to spring break, all of which passed unanimously. The council voted to prohibit balcony climbing, increase penalties for open container violations and ban alcohol on Panama City beaches during spring break.

What are the dates for the spring break alcohol ban? March 1-31, 2016.

What does this mean? No alcoholic beverages are permitted on sand beaches in Panama City.

What happens if you drink on the beach? Ask Panama City Beach Police Department Chief Drew Whitman,

"If we give them a 100 dollar fine, a 250 dollar fine that don't go on your record, and all we're going to do is go down there and give them a piece of paper, they're going to laugh. I can't take them off the beach and it's not going to solve our problem. The first year, we're going to have to go down there, then once they're causing problems, we're going to have to put them in jail, to send the message so they put on social media, hey, they're taking this serious, they're going to put you in jail if you're drinking on the beach," Whitman said.

College kids are already responding on social media, look at some tweets I received after posting the news...
